Guitar Hero III and Rock Band DLC: Goose and Maverick Would Be Proud

Free Top Gun Download, Kenny Loggins Not Included - This Friday is the 4th of July, so while you'll be busy enjoying some BBQ and running around with sparklers trying to spell out your name, try and make sure you find some time for a free "Guitar Hero III" download. The Top Gun Anthem, a guitar instrumental used throughout the movie, will be available on July 3rd for you and Goose to rock out to. Who knows, maybe you'll impress a flight instructor.

In Rock Band DLC news The Who 12 Pack, full of classic Who tracks, will be released July 15. Individual songs such as Baba O'Reilly and Behind Blue Eyes can be bought for 160MS points ($1.99) or you can buy the complete set for 1600 points ($19.99). I've always thought the price for downloads were a little steep (I only pay $.99 on iTunes), but with the news that gamers will be able to use their downloadable purchases on Rock Band 2 you'll probably get your money's worth. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Top Gun Anthem DLC

Grab your wingman and fire up the F-14 for the announcement today of a special Fourth of July treat for Activision, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero III®: Legends of Rock fans. Beginning July 3, 2008, the legendary, GRAMMY® award-winning Top Gun Anthem will be available as a free downloadable song for the game.

The instrumental, guitar-heavy theme was immortalized in the hit film that inspired a generation of young men to awkwardly serenade women at bars, perform perfectly-timed flipside high fives and threaten to buzz the tower. The song will be available as a free download to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock mavericks and their wingmen everywhere for Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and in the PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on July 3, 2008.

The Best of The Who: Rock Band Edition

There have been several important dates in the history of The Who: May 23, 1969, Iconic rock album Tommy is released and rockets to No. 4 on the U.S. charts. May 31, 1976, The Who's second concert at Charlton football ground earns them an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's loudest rock band. July 13, 1985, The Who re-form to perform at Live Aid and whip Wembley Stadium into an absolute frenzy.

Now, July 15, 2008 joins these dates, as a dozen classic songs by The Who get new life as Rock Band" game levels. MTV Games and Harmonix announced today that many of the legendary group's greatest hits will be added to the Rock Band catalog of downloadable content with the release of The Best of The Who: Rock Band Edition.

We're really pleased to have our songs featured in Rock Band, said Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who. It allows our established fan base to interact with our music in a way that's fresh and exciting, while also exposing our songs to new audiences.

The 12 songs were selected by Harmonix and MTV Games in consultation with Townshend and Daltrey. The release of The Who's Greatest Hits through Rock Band coincides with the VH1 Rock Honors celebration honoring the legendary rock band. Premiering on Thursday, July 17 at 9pm on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD, the show will celebrate The Whos monumental legacy with a two-hour tribute saluting the music and lasting impact of this groundbreaking band. The sweeping influence of The Who will be expressed through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of todays premiere rock acts as well as the legends themselves. The night will feature tribute performances by Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Flaming Lips, Incubus and Tenacious D as well as an electrifying grand finale performance from The Who.
