Guitar Hero III and World of Warcraft Make A Cute Couple

Jun. 25 11:06 AM by Terry Terrones

I know what you're thinking. How can I combine my love of World of Warcraft with my love of Guitar Hero III? And how do I get my mom to hold a bucket under me so I don't have to take a break from gaming? Blizzard has decided to answer the first question (you're on your own for the second) by making the song "I am Murloc" available as a free download for 360 and PS3 Guitar Hero III: Legends or Rock gamers. Hit the jump for all the pertinent info.

Combining the best selling game of 2007 with the world's most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Blizzard Entertainment®'s World of Warcraft®, players across the globe will soon be shredding to a free downloadable track for Activision Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock.

World of Warcraft players will remember the hit "I am Murloc" as the tongue-in-cheek tribute to the beloved race of fish-people by Blizzard Entertainment's house band, Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain. The thrash metal-style song debuted to delighted attendees at Blizzard Entertainments BlizzCon" 2005 gaming convention in Anaheim , CA .

Rock stars will be able to rip it up to "I am Murloc" by downloading it on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system starting on June 26, 2008 in advance of the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational held in Paris, France June 28 and June 29.

Of all the images to use to represent a World of Warcraft/Guitar Hero crossover, you chose that one? For shame.

There were plenty of better pics available from the "WoW Bard Hero Class" April Fool's Day joke that would have worked perfectly, with out pulling from the "WoW players are fat lazy slobs" negative stereotype imagery.

Sounds like I offended a WoW gamer. Oops. Every time I think of WoW I think of this South Park episode and I don't know one WoW gamer who doesn't think its hilarious. If you can't laugh at yourself, what's the point?

Well, to be honest, I did laugh at the South Park episode. Aside from the random crapping scene, I thought it was a great piece of satire. But the difference is all in the context. I was watching a show known for its satirical comedy, so the jabs were taken in stride.

This post, however, has nothing to do with South Park. It has to do with WoW and Guitar Hero. So affixing the negative imagery from the South Park episode to it, with out the satirical context, makes it come across as if you are claiming the image to be representing all WoW players. Over on omgRPG.com Im doing my best to represent WoW players (and all RPG players) in a positive light, and if/when I see negative stereotypes being enforced on any of the BlogFaction sister sites, Im going to take the time to say something.

My point is this: Please put a little more thought into your image selection in the future. There are a TON of other pics out there on the 'Net that would have been far more suitable to the content of the article. Thats all Im trying to say.

I respect your opinion but I think you're reading a little too much into the picture.

Christ, someone sounds a little butthurt.

I won't be happy until I see the bard class from April Fool's implemented into WoW. Until then, I guess I'll have to continue rocking out over Team Speak instead.

"Somebody shackle that loose mob. G minor! C'mon!"
