Review: Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty

Aug. 23 11:07 PM by Andrew Ramsey

"Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty" is the continuation to the hit title "Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction". Well, continuation is a bit too much for this title. It's more like a bonus chapter you would unlock for finding all the items in the game. Controlling Ratchet you venture into a pirate filled voyage in search of your missing companion, Clank, who was captured at the end of Tools of Destruction.

While the abilities Ratchet had in the previous title will not be present, he does have a few new tricks up his sleeve with his wrench. The wrench is back and proves to be a lot more useful this time than in any previous title. Picking up items to shoot and light your way through the pirate infested areas to search for your metal companion.

Using the existing engine, this game looks gorgeous. Everything looks superb and has that Pixar quality to it that made "Tools of Destruction" such a bright and vibrant game. Music can be placed under the same category; the quality put into this download is something that more developers should take into consideration. The only real complaint for this title would be the overall length. Two or three hours of gameplay, if you take your time, isn't very long for something that should be considered an expansion.

This is not to say that "Quest For Booty" isn't worth it, because it is certainly worth your time. It just would of have been better to have some sort of conclusion and not just a lead into the next title, which is all "Quest for Booty" really does. QFB has an appropriate price point for newcomers to get a quick glimpse into the series and immediately want more. Longtime fans will not be dissappointed either. There's plenty of enjoyment to be had, and despite being a little too short, gamers will want to go back again and again.

Pros: Nice visuals, solid gameplay, quirky name

Cons: Too short, no conclusion to the story
