Five Reasons Why Games Are Better Than Movies

Aug. 20 8:45 PM by Terry Terrones

As a lover of video games its easy to see how gaming is greatest thing in the world. Gaming makes people smarter, funnier, more athletic, taller and better looking. However, some still need convincing. Music, movies, television and other forms of entertainment are great but sometimes people don't realize how much fun gaming can be. In order to educate the masses, GPArcade is starting a new series, the Top 5 Ways Gaming is Better Than... This week? Going to the Movies.

1. Refunds - If you don't like a game you can either take it back or at least get store credit for something better. If you don't like a movie don't bother whining to the manager, you're screwed. It's too bad you can't get time refunds either. There are plenty of movies (Wild Wild West, Catwoman, Spider-Man 3) that I wish would give me 2 hours of my life back.

2. Better Actors - Somehow Brendan Fraser, Rob Schneider, Freddie Prinze, Jr. and David Hasselhoff still have acting careers. Just based on their voice talents alone David "Solid Snake" Hayter and Charles "Mario" Martinet are better actors. Are you telling me Hayter couldn't do a better Michael Knight than the Hoff? And you know Charles Martinet would've killed in Deuce Bigalow.

3. No Lines - The only time you'll see a line when buying a video game is at the midnight release of a big title. And with downloadable games, you don't even have to move from the ass grove of your couch. If you want to go to the movies you have to get in your car ($4/gallon of gas), park 50 yards from the theater (at least on a weekend), wait in line to buy tickets, and wait in line to get popcorn. If you take a family of four to a movie, you're paying more for a 2 hour flick than you would for a 10-50 hour game.

4. Interactivity - Talking is discouraged while watching a movie. Trash talking is encouraged while playing video games with friends. In a game you make the decisions on what your character does and the order in which they do it, you control the action. In a movie you're nothing more than a voyeur. Perv.

5. Cheaper Snacks - Cost of popcorn, candy and a Coke at the theater - $12. Cost of popcorn, candy and a Coke at home - $2. Cost of pounding your brother in Halo 3 - priceless.

lol! Great List! I especially like 5, priceless.

Damn, I used to love going to the movies but it's not even worth it anymore. Better to sit at home on my comfy couch, with food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and watch it on my HDTV.

I don't agree...

1. If you didn't like it when peter parker hit his musical number, get out of your set and demand a refund!!! If they don't give it to you, whine and complain till they are forced to refund you just to shut you up! And what are you doing seeing Catwoman anyway? There called reviews! read 'em.

2.Better actors? Sure, if you compare them to the Hoff. What about Crowe, Depp, Eastwood, Caine or Pacino?

3. Are you criticizing movies or the venues that they are
show in? On demand ring a bell?

4. Rent a movie and you can trash talk all ya want, no one
will complain, try it.

5. Sneak it in, get a chick to put your fatty crap in her purse!

I kinda agree. So many movies these days are ripped off of old story lines from way-back-when movies and others are just crappy remakes of japanese films. Its hard to find an original movie thats worth the 10.50 to go see.

and non lame ass stories like in some movies

really? and it's that much easier finding a $60 game worth paying to play?

as somebody who works his ass off at a movie theater i guaren-damn-tee you that myself and anybody else i work with do our damndest to provide a top notch experience... if somebody even just dislikes the movie (even though i strongly recommend a review and proper homework before viewin... example - "is dark knight appropriate for my ten year old?" NO!) we're still willing to give passes in order for them to come back and not lose faith in the magic that is cinema...
article = lose

am i the only one who thinks that Brendan Fraser
was better on scrubs than in any movie he has ever made

I also find that if someone likes a movie, other people will like it. It goes vice versa too, if it gets bad reviews, everyone will give it bad reviews. Games have all kinds of mixed opinions, except the very terrible ones.
