Review: American McGee's Grimm

Aug. 10 5:50 PM by Andrew Ramsey

American McGee's Grimm is not your mother's fairy tale story. It basically takes the Mother Goose concept and pisses all over it, literally. Those sweet tales with their happily ever after are stripped of all that is good and replaced with something evil.

In the game you play as Grimm, a pirate looking fellow who is hell-bent on ruining everyone's life. He tells tales to everyone, but likes to add his own dark twist to the mix. How Grimm accomplishes this task is very simple, he walks! When he moves about this fairy tale land death follows him, leaving a trail behind. The first chapter "A Boy Learns What Fear Is" is teaching you what the title says, fear! The boy featured in this tale is an ignoramus and has no clue what fear is, and neither does anyone else. Because of this, old Grimm steps in to show you how this can be fixed.

Moving Grimm is as simple as clicking a mouse. Point his midget body in the direction you wish to go, click and your set. Click the right button on the mouse and it will have him jump and double clicking that will have him do a butt bounce which will cause a bigger area of damage, as well as complete larger task. While there is some platforming in the game a majority of the time you will be pointing and clicking your way throughout the area. Stand still and Grimm lets off a stream of urine. Why? It's tough to say. It was rather comical at first, but tends to get old very fast. With nice artwork, funny antics and a unique twist on some very wholesome fairy tales American McGee's Grimm does a good job at keeping you entertained. While this first chapter was not very long, about two hours it still has plenty of content to keep you busy, especially since more chapters are already on their way. So go over to Gametap and wreak havoc among the fairy tale land. Just try not to get too consumed with doing evil shenanigans.
