Vigilante 8: Arcade Review

Nov. 12 10:35 PM by Andrew Ramsey

Back in 1998 Vigilante 8 graced the PS1 with its vehicular combat mayhem and fun gameplay. Activision has revised this title for Xbox Live Arcade and is calling it Vigilante 8: Arcade.

Much like the original, in Vigilante 8 gamers pick a vehicle and use it to destroy other vehicles as quick as possible. Strewn about the map are power ups to help aid you in this destructive quest. These range from weapon upgrades to shield/health packs. Working your way through level after level you reach a boss in which need to destroy. Though similar to fighting games, beating this game isn't what's fun - it's the overall experience.

Rock Band DLC: Get Some Foo

Nov. 11 8:27 PM by Terry Terrones

The Foo Fighters kick ass, plain and simple. Thankfully gamers can now add more Foo songs to the initially puny collection on Rock Band and Rock Band 2 through the recently released "The Colour and the Shape" album.

The album, available for 1600MS points ($20) in its entirety or 160MS points ($1.99) per song, gives gamers access to 14 Foo Fighters songs. Sweet! "The Colour and the Shape" is available for download on the Xbox 360 right now, poor PS3 gamers have to wait until Thursday.

Hit the jump for all the details.

Weekly 360 and Wii Downloads: Yummy, Yummy Yummy I Got Love in My Tummy

Nov. 10 5:02 PM by Terry Terrones

A picture of Homer Simpson stuffing his face would have been a much more appropriate picture considering the title of this post but since receiving multiple emails from Matt Groening threatening to sue me if I don't "cease and desist using his intellectual property without permission", I thought I'd put up a pic of an actual game instead.

Not that you can really blame me for the crazy title. When one of the games available for download this week is "Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam" (1,000 Wii Points) and you've seen every episode of The Simpsons, you just can't help yourself. What else can Wii owners pick up today? "Brain Challenge" (1,000 points) and "Mega Man 3" (500 points).

Normally this is the place where I'd tell you about the XBLA game/s of the week but my MS contact has been surprisingly tight lipped. I do have some information but she swore me to secrecy, and if I tell you what I know without permission she'll shave my eyebrows off.

Look for a post on what new content you can expect to see on XBLA as soon as my virtual hands have been virtually unhandcuffed. In the meantime, hit the jump for all the details on the Wii downloadables.

Autumn of Arcade Comes To A Close

Nov. 9 3:44 PM by Terry Terrones

The Sopranos. The Beatles. Lindsay Lohan's hotness. Just three examples that all good things come to an end. So does GamePro Arcade's three week console point card giveaway program, Autumn of Arcade, which reaches its conclusion today.

But don't think for a second that this is the end of GPArcade's generosity. At least once a month I'll be giving away something - codes for downloadable games, console points cards or (on rare occassions) gaming schwag. In fact, starting sometime this week we'll be handing out a copy of Bejeweled Twist for you to download on your PC. Besides being a place to win prizes, GPArcade is a great place to find the latest news, reviews, interviews and articles on downloadable games and downloadable content.

Congrats to our PSN card winners listed below. In order to claim your prize, log on to GamePro.com and add my editor (and boss, so be nice to him) Tae Kim to your friends list (gamepro.com/profile/view/TKK) and look for a PM from him sometime this week. Hit the jump to see if you've won.

Play An Arcade Game With Your New 360 Avatar

Nov. 6 5:11 PM by Terry Terrones

Microsoft isn't wasting any time finding gamers something to do with their new avatars when the New Xbox Experience launches later this month. Starting November 19, Xbox 360 owners can download "A Kingdom of Kefflings" for 800MS points from XBLA. In the game, a players own personal avatar acts as a Paul Bunyun sized urban planner, helping the shrimp sized Keflings build their growing city. Think Sim City but with Apache Chief from the Super Friends walking around, barking orders.

The new title sounds pretty interesting and looks very kid friendly. I just hope it offers gamers a chance to unleash their inner Godzilla too. Hit the jump for all the details.

Review: Bejeweled Twist

Nov. 5 7:27 PM by Terry Terrones

Chances are you've probably heard of a little game called Bejeweled. Even the most unenlightened of gamers has seen it somewhere because its available on just about every electronic device ever made. Cell phones, PC's, iPods, PDA's, consoles - you name the device and you can find a version of Bejeweled for it. It's the video game equivalent of CSI.

Not that anyone's complaining. With 350 million copies downloaded and more than 25 million units sold, its one of the most popular casual titles of all time. Recently PopCap Games, the brains behind the Bejeweled franchise, released its latest model. It may have taken four years to get from Bejeweled 2 to the brand new Bejeweled Twist, but at least it was worth the wait. A souped up version of a long time favorite is exactly what fans of the series have been waiting for.

Rock Band DLC: Gerald Ford, Abe Lincoln, Dick Cheney

Nov. 4 3:57 PM by Terry Terrones

If She Was Elected President She'd Be Named Baberaham Lincoln - Happy Election Day! In order to celebrate the naming of our next Commander-in-Chief, Rock Band is offering up some DLC from the appropriately named music group The Presidents of the United States. I have no idea who these guys are but I hope they wear masks on stage of Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter just like the surfer bank robbers in Point Break. Also available for download is "I Don't Care" by Fallout Boy and Hinder's "Use Me".

If paying for songs isn't your thing, no problem. Today is the day Rock Band is offering up the 20 free downloadable songs I mentioned a few weeks ago. Don't get too excited though, you probably haven't heard of any of them.

Hit the jump for all the details.

Tetris Party - Review

Nov. 4 9:59 AM by Andrew Ramsey

Tetris party brings you back to that classic time of the Gameboy. Its green/black scale with wonderful music swept the nation as well as our hearts. Well Tetris is back and this time it is going full force on WiiWare. But with the Wii having such a small space to put your downloadable titles on, it's time to clear off some space to make sure this gem fits. You won't regret it. Tetris Party brings all the things you would want out of a Tetris game to the Wii with some nice added modes.
